It is a duel slalom event with top 16 men & women competing for points and prize money.   The idea is to take the skiing to the people and promote skiing in cities around Europe - this winter 1 in Moscow & 1 in Munich.   Currently the Circus Maximus is a grassy hill in central Rome but snow would be trucked in to make it a skiable slope.   We will keep you posted. In theory I wasn’t allowed to ski whilst I was a competitive rower, but sneaked away on an annual basis. Since my retirement at the 2000 Olympics I have been able to ski a lot more. I also have taken my BASI 1 instructors so extremely honoured to be asked to become President of the British Association of Snowsport Instructors. I am looking forward to the role".   IN reposnce BASI Chairman, Gareth Roberts commented, "It is a great honour to have Sir Steve associated with BASI as our Honorary President. As one of the greatest British Olympic athletes, we look forward to his involvement in the Association along with the support and encouragement he can provide to our members. This is a truly proud moment in BASI's 50th anniversary year".   Fri, 28 Sep 2012 18:36:27 +0200 https://www.chamonixsnowsports.com/news/23/20/Sir-Steve-Redgrave-New-President-of-BASI Bode Miller to Marry https://www.chamonixsnowsports.com/news/22/20/Bode-Miller-to-Marry The legendary US World Cup skier and "bad boy" of the US team, Bode Miller, is to marry his sporting sweetheart Morgan Beck, a professional volleyball player. Wed, 19 Sep 2012 18:03:08 +0200 https://www.chamonixsnowsports.com/news/22/20/Bode-Miller-to-Marry Revolutionary Ski for Beginners https://www.chamonixsnowsports.com/news/21/20/Revolutionary-Ski-for-Beginners A British skier has developed a revolutionary new ski to assist beginner and intermediate skiers in their quest to conquer the slopes. Incredibly the design was inspired by a shark swimming through the water, whilst visiting an aquarium designer Rony Shirion was immediately struck with an idea - If a fish uses its tail to swim though water then why does a ski not do the same thing? As we turn on skis we want to feel that smooth transaction from turn to turn and that’s just what Rony wanted to achieve with his new ski. It has taken several years of design and testing but the ski is being tested and is near to production. We are hoping to test some this winter in Chamonix, if we do then we will let you know what we think.
